Punjab wheat procurement: Nawaz Sharif summons PM Shehbaz

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Nawaz Sharif today (Saturday) summoned Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to discuss the issue of purchase of wheat in Punjab.

According to reports, the Prime Minister will also brief Nawaz Sharif on the situation at the Center during his visit to Jati Umrah.

Earlier on Friday, the PML-N held an important consultative meeting during which PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif decided to bring to justice those who created the wheat crisis across the country, including in the country's largest province, Punjab.

Sources said that while purchasing wheat, the option of issuing a farmer card was also being considered.

The PML-N leader directed his ruling party to provide Kissan card to farmers at the earliest.

Separately, it was reported that Prime Minister Shehbaz is expected to appoint Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Nawaz Sharif as party president in key meetings scheduled next Saturday (May 11).

Sources said the party's central executive committee and central committee meetings have been convened on May 11.

Invitations to upcoming meetings have also been sent.

According to sources, the decision to change other organizational functions has not yet been taken, especially regarding the post of party chairman.

Days later, former interior minister Rana Sanaullah said he had personally urged Nawaz Sharif to return to office as party president.

Meanwhile, senior PML-N leader Khawaja Saad Rafiq said, “Everyone wants former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to lead the party.”

“Now there is no constitutional impediment to Nawaz Sharif becoming party president. Nawaz Sharif has been asked to take over as party president,” he said.
