First congo virus-related death causes alarms in Punjab

The Punjab health department said Imran, 44, a resident of Attock, died of Congo virus, making him the first case of Congo virus infection in Punjab in 2024.

Punjab has reported 16 cases and six deaths in the past four years, according to the provincial health department.

According to statistics, this is the fourth case of Congo virus infection and the first recorded death.

"The Punjab health department warned of Congo, a perilous illness capable of transmission from animals to humans.

In Punjab, 10 cases were reported in 2020, in which one person died, while three deaths were reported in 2022.

Punjab has recorded five confirmed cases and three deaths in 2023, according to health officials.
