King Charles, other royals to relinquish several patronages

Buckingham Palace announced Saturday that King Charles and other members of the British royal family would withdraw their support from nearly 200 charities and causes after evaluating their ties to more than 1,000 organizations.

After the death of Queen Elizabeth, an investigation was launched into all organizations and charities with which she, Charles and his wife, Queen Camilla, were associated as patrons or chairmen.

Charles was associated with 441 and Camilla with 100, while Elizabeth was patron of 492 organizations. Just over 830 patronages were retained by the king and queen or granted to other members of the royal family.

Organizations can request that a member of the royal family become their patron, which gives them the right to publicize their efforts and leads to wide recognition of their achievements.

The Royal British Legion, the armed forces' largest charity, Dogs Trust, the Jockey Club and Wildlife Trusts, a local conservation organisation, are just a few who will continue to support the royal links.

According to Craig Bennett, Chief Executive of the Wildlife Trust, "Her Majesty has continually demonstrated vision, courage and leadership in helping communities, charities and businesses meet the challenges and opportunities of living more sustainably and in harmony with nature. "

“I am therefore honored that Her Majesty has agreed to continue her patronage.”

The study's findings will be distributed to relevant organizations this week, which also marks the first anniversary of Charles and Camilla's coronation, the palace said.
